Look, 4 stars! I’m on a roll! I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I’m reading old stuff these days...
Anyway, It’s my second read by A.M. Riley and I don’t know if it’s a habit I will find in her other books, but I like very much how the mystery and her detective’s personal life are tied together. It adds urgency to the whatddunit and edge to the growing romance and personal stakes.
A killer had the bad taste to deposit a body in Roger’s home, and as if it wasn’t enough to trouble his peace, it looks like the BDSM community is involved. And it happens that Roger is a Master in said community...
The mystery is good, Mary Anne (Roger's partner) is the shit and doesn’t feel the need to overstep bounderies and be Roger’s sex consultant, Roger and his tightly repressed emotions are intense, Sean is a cute annoying pup, the romance is not heavy on feelz, but the author captured the razor’s edge and the conflicts of the growing relationship, BDSM is part of the characters’ life and personality, not reduced to kinky scenes here and there.
I loved it, see somewhere else for its flaws.
On to other Riley stories...
